Fun Fact: Local story from the world heritage city of Avila. It was founded by a Cetic tribe, they lived over the hills in a defensive stone forts called “Castros” and venerated stone animals named “Verracos” which are all over the south of Castilla y León and Portugal. Once the Romans came, they kicked the Celtics and built “Calzadas”, Roman routes designed to improve goods movement, they also built a “roman necropolis” which is present in the Wall. Then the Visigods came in and kicked the Romans and adopted the Catholic religion but then they were invaded by the Muslims and Avila became a strategic spot. Owing to these fact, the men were sent to the war and Ximena Blazquez, the wife’s governor defended Avila with the help of the women and children from the city, therefore preventing the invasion.
